Figure of an animal (possibly a horse)

Culture: [Persian ](http://vocab.getty.edu/page/aat/300019933). Material: Leaded bronze. Accession No: MG 012. Current Location: [The Hunt Museum](https://www.huntmuseum.com/). A leaded bronze statue of a rearing horse, previously belived to be a leopard or panther. The figure is badly damaged with areas missing. The statue is now mounted on a porphyry base. The lower half of the tail and lower portion of the front legs are missing. The front of the muzzle is damaged. The figure appears to be in a low-level rearing position, but the straightened front forearms suggest it was standing on something. The hooves are clearly outlined on the rear legs. The item has been identified as Persian. The Persians were renowned horse breeders and considered the horses value in its functionality.
