Altersbilder als gesellschaftliche Konstruktionen im Kontext von (Un-)Sicherheit Images of Ageing as Social Constructions in the Context of (Un-)Certainty

Altersbilder sind keine unbedeutenden Begleiterscheinungen des Umgangs mit dem Alter(n), denn sie schaffen eine Realität, die diesen mitbegründet. Sie entstehen auf der Basis gesellschaftlicher Strukturen und stehen in engem Zusammenhang mit den jeweiligen (Un-)Sicherheitslagen der Älteren, so lautet die in diesem Beitrag verfolgte soziologische These. Anhand historischer Beispiele – Athen und Sparta in der Klassischen Antike und Hexen in der Frühen Neuzeit – wird idealtypisch zugespitzt skizziert, welche Wechselbeziehungen zwischen Altersbildern und den (un-)gewissen Lebenssituationen Älterer bestehen. Es wird resümiert, dass Altersbilder mehr über die jeweilige Gesellschaft aussagen, in der sie entstehen, als über das Alter oder die Älteren selbst. Images of Ageing are not insignificant side effects of dealing with the age and with elderly, because they create a reality that co-founded it. They are formed on the basis of social structures and they are closely associated with situations of (un-)certainty of older people, this is the sociological thesis followed here. Based on historical examples – Athen and Sparta in the ancient world and witches in the early modern period – it is outlined pointedly which interactions between images of ageing and the (un-)certain life of older people exist.
