Forest Fires in Toledo District, Belize (2024-05-23)

On 23 May 2024 at 23:51, several forest fires are reported to have affected the southern zones of Belize (Toledo disctrict) during the last week. The fires have mainly affected agricultural lands which poses a threat to livelihoods. The prevailing drought conditions in the region exacerbated the situation and water for firefighting, as well as capacities, is limited. Copernicus EMS Rapid Mapping is requested to provide an initial rough estimation of the event extent and active fires, then a detailed analysis and grading of damages over smaller affected areas.
