Impact AI - AI for Democracy Dataset

Artificial Intelligence is often presented as a tool that could potentially strengthen democratic processes, but so far there is little empirical evidence either for or against such claims. In an effort to bridge this gap, this systematically compiled ‘AI for Democracy Dataset’ encompasses 98 AI projects that explicitly claim to serve democratic purposes. The dataset is intended as a resource for researchers seeking to empirically investigate these claims and assess their societal implications. The named authors collected, validated and categorized this dataset. They are part of the Impact AI research project at the Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet & Society (HIIG) in Berlin, funded by the VolkswagenStiftung as part of the Change! Fellowship programme. The Impact AI research project is assessing the real-world impact of AI projects oriented towards public interest and sustainability.
