Maps of Germany and the Czech Republic with hybrid renewable system sizes to supply electricity self-sufficient clusters of residential consumers

This data set includes the results of the paper “Potential Analysis of Hybrid Renewable Energy Systems for Self-Sufficient Residential Use in Germany and the Czech Republic” (https://doi.org/10.3390/en12214185). The 14 maps in NetCDF format correspond to three different types of results: 1. Hourly, daily and monthly correlations of solar and wind resources (“cor_solar_wind_h.nc”, “cor_solar_wind_d.nc”, “cor_solar_wind_m.nc”) as well as the correlation of photovoltaic and wind power (“cor_wp_pv_h.nc”, “cor_wp_pv_d.nc”, “cor_wp_pv_m.nc”) per COSMO-REA6 grid point for Germany and the Czech Republic. 2. The system sizes (capacity of battery, PV1 with latitude-dependent angle, PV2 with fixed angle and number of wind turbines with 10 m hub height) that would be necessary to supply electricity self-sufficient clusters of ten residential households considering the effect of snow cover on photovoltaic modules (“battery_h10.nc”, “pv1_h10.nc”, “pv2_h10.nc” and “wind10m_h10.nc”). 3. The system sizes that would be necessary to supply electricity self-sufficient clusters of 50 residential households considering the effect of snow cover on photovoltaic modules (“battery_h50.nc”, “pv1_h50.nc”, “pv2_h50.nc” and “wind10m_h50.nc”). Additionally, there is map in GeoTIFF format (“S16_TotalCost_min_cost_sc_2010_h50.tif”) that presents the total system costs for the cluster with 50 households. The maps in 2. and 3. are limited to Germany and the Czech Republic excluding areas with populations higher than 1,500 inhabitants per square kilometre. The maps in NetCDF format were exported using python’s xarray package which is recommended to import and further process the data. Each file stores one single variable (the name of the variable is different depending on the map/technology) in latitude and longitude coordinates.
