HIV and Severe Mental Illness Comorbidity Qualitative Data

In Uganda, both severe mental illness (SMI) and HIV/AIDS are highly stigmatized conditions, and these forms of stigma often overlap and reinforce each other. We collected these data to examine factors influencing retention in care and to explore how stigma and discrimination are perceived, experienced, and manifested among people living with HIV who also have a diagnosed SMI at Butabika National Referral Hospital. The study also examined the effects of this intersectional stigma on different aspects of their lives.
