资源简介:
This study was conducted to determine the effect of using long acting oxytetracycline on the course of CBPP infection in an experimental herd infected by contact transmission. The study also sought to address the concerns that use of antibiotics, oxytetracycline, would affect detection of CBPP by FAO recommended serological test, Complement Fixation Test (CFT). The study involved 30 indigenous zebu cattle sourced from a CBPP free zone in Kenya, exposed to the disease by contact transmission and randomly allocated to oxytetracycline or saline treatment groups. Clinical observations were recorded on the two groups concurrently. The mean clinical scores of the groups for each observation was compared post treatment on GENSTAT using unpaired t-test for single sample in groups.. In this study oxytetracycline treatment was shown to modify the clinical signs of the disease by lowering the severity of the clinical signs. This is important particularly to cattle destined for slaughter where decision on whether to pass or condemn the animal is based on the clinical signs and postmortem findings.
