资源简介:
This collection comprises image, text, spreadsheet and CAD data from Archaeological Evaluation and Monitoring work at The Bull Public House, London Road, Pitsea. The work was undertaken by Archaeology South-East between February and April 2016. Six trial trenches were excavated across the circa 6000 square metre development area followed by two phases of monitoring. The earliest remains consisted of a small 13th/14th century gully and evidence for continuing 15th, 18th and 19th century activities were also found. Documentary evidence indicates that there was a public house on site from at least 1828-9. The majority of the recovered pottery assemblage dates to the 18th century and could suggest that the building depicted in 1777 was also in use as an inn or tavern.
