Source of DNA/RNA used for sequencing: Genomic DNA of Plasmodium cynomolgi (strain ATCC 30046) was obtained from the blood of Macaca fuscata experimentally infected with the parasite, which was originally isolated from Macaca fascicularis in Cambodia and supplied from American Type Culture Collection (ATCC #30046). The human malaria parasite, Plasmodium vivax, belongs to malaria parasites that infect Old World monkeys. Comparative genomics of P. cynomolgi, the closest relative to P. vivax, and related parasites is expected to elucidate P. vivax-specific genomic changes associated with the infectivity to humans.
