VPRS 19409 Medical Advisory Committee Minutes

This series comprises volumes recording meeting minutes of the Medical Advisory Committee of Prince Henry's Hospital (VA 441). The Medical Advisory Committee was the principal advisor to the hospital's Board of Management on all matters affecting the medical sector of the hospital. The Medical Advisory Committee replaced the Medical Council, the latter having previously advised the Board of Management on medical matters. At its establishment, the Medical Advisory Committee comprised the following members of the senior medical staff: Director of Medical Services; Deputy Director of Medical Services; Chairman and Deputy Chairman of each division; and the Chairman and Chairman elect of Senior Medical Staff. Following a review of the functioning of the Medical Advisory Committee in 1983, some major changes were recommended and adopted by the Board. These included: - That the Chairman of the Senior Medical Staff would in future be also Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee;  - That the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee would formally present the report of the Medical Advisory Committee to each meeting of the Board of Management; and  - That the Deputy Director of Medical Services be appointed as Chairman of the Division of Paramedical Services and, as such, became a member of the Medical Advisory Committee. Matters considered during the year 1984-85 included a review of the intensive care unit, waiting lists, admission of emergencies, representation on the equipment budget, relocation of Prince Henry's Hospital, sabbatical leave applications, Psychiatric Treatment Centre, and medical appointments. Matters considered during the 1985-86 year included elective surgery admissions, waiting lists, bed closures, expenditure reductions, and community health projects.
