Secale cereale RNA-sequencing after infection with leaf rust

The RNA-seq analysis was performed in order to find differentially expressed genes (DEGs) after infection of rye (Secale cereale L.) with leaf rust (Puccinia recondita f. sp. secalis, Prs). In the experiment, three unrelated inbred lines (D33, D39, L318) were either infected (with compatible and incompatible Prs strain) or mock treated. The plant material was sampled 20 and 36 hours post treatment. Transcriptome approach to identify gene candidates triggering resistance to leaf rust was employed in rye for the first time.
