Breath alcohol analyzers can fail to detect mouth alcohol contamination despite having "slope detection" algorithms, potentially leading to falsely elevated results with serious legal consequences. An analysis of three case reports showed significant anomalies in breath expirograms that strongly suggest undetected mouth alcohol contamination.
