The bacterial community was evaluated for the sediment along a restored Brooklyn beach, which is a popular nesting ground for horseshoe crabs. Therefore, additional samples were collected from juvenile horseshoe grab gut tract and feces. The project goal was to do the first microbiome assessment of the system, especially for the horseshoe crab microbiome. An additional objective was to relate the difference in beach sand microbiome with the location of juvenile horseshoe crabs.
