资源简介:
Research Background 'Plume' was included in the curated two-person exhibition 'Adaption', a survey of recent works selected by the curator Kent Buchanan to explore ideas of the Australian Landscape. The work mines the crevices between representational depictions of the landscape and its fauna, and otherworldly surreal manifestations that speak of our psychological relationship with the land. Research Significance The work 'Plume' extends the long-standing research aims concerning ideas of transformation and regeneration in Weaver's work that has been recognized through selection for major curated national and international exhibitions and comment in journal/ newspaper articles throughout her career. 'Weaver's explorations in textiles and use of the handmade to describe and critique the natural world have precedence in primitive cultures, craft movements, feminism and folk art. International exponents such as Annette Messager, Nick Cave, and Louise Bourgeois explore materiality in diverse ways, and together with Weaver have influenced younger Australian Artists'. Kent Buchanan. 'Notes on Adaption' and 'The needle as pencil', Kent Buchanan ISBN 978 - 0 - 9871451 - 0 - 9 'Adaption' was supported by Communities Arts NSW GOVT. Research Contribution My research investigates how sculptural objects can be adapted, shift meaning and suggestion allowing a window into notions of transference and duality. 'The adaption and usage of materials in Weaver's practice allows the work to converse with the riches and references of International art and culture, yet reminds us of the objects relationship to the landscape and environment from whence it came and to which it is so closely bedded.'
