This dataset includes complete bibliographic and demographic information from trial records related to two alleged slave conspiracies organized at the Pointe Coupée Post in the Spanish territory of Louisiana in 1791 and 1795. The data was created by a research team at UC Berkeley dedicated to preserving, digitizing, transcribing, translating, and analyzing manuscripts from these conspiracies. Demographic fields include race, ethnicity (or “nation”), gender, birthplace, birthdate, status, occupation, enslaver, residence, literacy, sentence, and date of death, as well as roles played at trial and alleged participation in a conspiracy.
