VPRS 16313 Maintenance Ledger, Master in Lunacy

The maintenance ledgers are part of the records relating to the Lunacy Maintenance Account which dealt with the general care, protection and management of the estates of lunatics or those judged to be incapable of managing their affairs.The Maintenance Ledger/Register was created to document the outgoings and income of those individuals placed in state care/asylums or hospitals for the mentally ill. The Ledger/Registers recorded the patients' name, and the financial costs.This series provides a summary record of the receipt and general disbursement of funds for the management of general care, protection and management of the estates of lunatics or those judged to be incapable of managing their affairs.The Master in Equity (and Lunacy) was responsible until 1940 (and the transfer of the function to VA 719 Office of the Public Trustee) for the general care protection and management or supervision of the management of the estates of all lunatics persons of unsound mind and those incapable of managing their own affairs.
