In this study, we sequenced the genomes of diploid Saccharomyces cerevisiae clones that had been selected for the loss of one or two chromosomes. We found that such clones often harbored numerous other aneuploidies that had arisen concomitantly with the selected aneuploidies. These results indicate that aneuploidization of the genome can occur during transient bursts of genomic instability.
