Pattern 1796 Light Cavalry Saber (Trooper)

19th Century British Oakeshott Collection Catalogue Number: OC074 The second example of the Pattern 1796 Light Cavalry Saber in the Oakeshott collection, this particular sword is said to have been carried at the battle of Waterloo. Heavier than the Officer's variant, the Trooper's variant of the Pattern 1796 has a broader spatulated tip and a more simplified grip. In addition, the scabbard is more robust, providing extra protection for the weapon. This specific sword is especially interesting due to the modified grip.
