This project aims to describe the diversity of thermophilic Thermus thermophilus strains isolated from Mine Onsen hot spring in Japan where the type strain HB8 was isolated 50 years ago (1968). Systematic genome sequencing of T. thermophilus from the hot spring every year should unveil the evolutionary mechanism and/or genome stability/instability among the closely related species.
