Microbiota associated to pulmonary samples from pneumonia patients

The aim of the current work was to improve the knowledge obtained using traditional culture-based, urine antigen and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) techniques which only allow for partial identification of the pulmonary microbiota. Here, we present a methodology based on NGS techniques to characterize the whole lung microbiome of adult patients with CAP and to compare the pulmonary microbiota associated to non-invasive and invasive methodologies.. We propose that studies based on massive nucleic acid sequencing could identify the most frequent etiological agents of the disease, quickly and with a high percentage of sensitivity and specificity.
