资源简介:
This register contains a summary record of all Settlement Leases in the Land District of Balranald, kept by the Balranald Lands Office. This tenure was introduced in 1895 under the Crown Lands Act of 1895 (58 Vic. No.18), as a form of lease which could combine agricultural purposes with grazing. This tenure stated that those who desire to combine agriculture with grazing may take up a Settlement Lease of land up to 1280 acres, that is land which will afterwards become suitable for agricultural purposes; or of grazing land up to 10,240 acres, the actual size of the block being regulated according to its capability of supporting one family. The term of the lease being twenty eight years, which later increased to forty. The lessee was required to fence the external boundaries of the holding within five years and was expected to continuously reside on the holding for the full term of the lease. When a Settlement Lease had been executed by the Governor a notification to that effect was to be published in the Gazette, and the lease be forwarded to the Land Agent for delivery to the leasee. The leasee was to then take delivery of the lease within three months after the notification. The register records information such as the year and number of the settlement lease, name and address of applicant, date and time of receipt of application, area applied for and section, date of confirmation and area confirmed, date of commencement of lease, county, parish, portion number, name and address of transferee, date of transfer, description of land applied for, date of Gazette, payments made, including deposit and interest on late payments, date of payments, dates of issue of instructions to inspector and numbers and dates of reports, and any further remarks or notations.
