Fish passage in Maryland Revised final completion report, activities for the period July 1, 1996 to December 31, 1999

Restoring spawning habitat to migratory species is the primary objective of the program, but resident species are also important. Migratory target species include: American and hickory shad, alewife, blueback herring, white and yellow perch, American eel and sturgeon. To date, 34 species of fish, many of them residents, have been documented to pass Maryland fishways through biological monitoring activities. Some species pass in large numbers. For example, during the spring 2000 monitoring season, over 81,000 fish ascended three fishways. Grant no. NA66FU0295
