资源简介:
We propose for 68 ksec of observing time on XMM-Newton to monitor X-ray activity on four pairs of virtually identical twin M dwarfs. These twin wide binaries are comprised of stars with nearly identical masses comma ages comma and compositions. Evolutionary models and conventional thinking suggest that such sets of twin stars should evolve nearly co-equally comma resulting in similar levels of magnetic activity. These XMM-Newton data will be used in concert with optical monitoring that provides information about short-term flaring comma medium-term rotation periods comma and long-term stellar spot cycles comma which can then be correlated with X-ray activity. This work is carried out as part of CoI Couperus. Ph.D. thesis. This will be a robust test of magnetic predictability.
