<p>This study provides data on a wide variety of employee and employers’ attitudes toward work, as well as background information on the plant. Employee-level questions include age, earnings, education, sex, and marital status. Specific questions on employment/occupation include the following: authority rank of worker, functional department of worker, number of years employed at plant, and time required to train someone to do your job. Also included are a series of questions on job satisfaction, respondents’ preferences for how to organize work processes, and perceptions of fairness in the workplace. Plant-level variables include questions on industry, years of operation, number of employees, organizational structure, sales receipts, labor costs, relationships with suppliers, quality control methods, specialization of departments, and decision making. Study samples were drawn from manufacturing establishments in the Indianapolis metropolitan area and the Atsugi region of Kanagawa prefecture in Japan. (Source: codebook with edits)</p>
