To provide a preliminary insight into whether clostridial spores can germinate and effectively colonize insects, we conducted a pilot oral feeding assay of adult Glanville fritillary butterfly (Melitaea cinxia) using a diluted honey solution supplemented with (treatment) or without (control) spores of C. botulinum Group II strain Beluga.
