The genome of two local sheep breeds from the Basque Country, Sasi Ardi and Latxa, have been resequenced and scanned searching for selective sweeps related with natural and artificial selection.

In the present study, the genomes of Sasi Ardi and Latxa sheep from the Western Pyrenees have been resequenced following the Pool-Seq approach and scanned for three type of selected candidate regions, those 1) underlying local adaptation of Sasi Ardi semi-feral sheep, 2) related to a long traditional dairy selection pressure in Latxa, and, 3) experiencing the specific effect of the modern genetic improvement program established for Latxa breed.
