Pan Trap Data Set of Insects in a Grassland and Woodlot

The Pan Trap dataset was collected on September 29, 2014 between the hours of 2:45pm and 4:30pm. The location was at the York University Keele Campus located in Toronto, Ontario in both a woodlot and a grassland. At the onset of the lab, the researcher laid out 9 plastic bowl in the grassland, alternating between the three colours, white, yellow, and blue, and set these bowls 3m apart. Each bowl was filled halfway with soapy water. This site was left so that time could pass, allowing insects to be collected in the bowls. The researcher did the same procedure in the woodland site – laying the 3 different coloured plastic bowls out 3m a part. After approximately 35 minutes, the researcher observed the number and type of insect in each bowl. After the observation, the soapy water was disposed of and the bowls were collected. The same procedure was done in the grassland.
