The goal of this study was to characterize diet composition of free-living Purple Martins (Progne subis) using DNA metabarcoding of fecal samples collected from nestlings and adults at three sites across their species range: Orlando (FL), Erie (PA), and Winnipeg (Manitoba, Canada). Genomic DNA extracted from fecal samples were amplified with two COI barcodes, ANML and ZBJ, for the purpose of comparing the efficacy of these primer sets used individually and in combination.
