We propose a community-based sequencing project for whole-genome sequencing of a suite of saprotrophic (decayer) Fungi in the Basidiomycota, subphylum Agaricomycotina. The proposed organisms are of central relevance to the DOE mission with regard to lignocellulose bioconversion, biofuel production, feedstock improvement, and carbon cycle functioning.
