Within the PhoenixD excellence cluster, face milling experiments were conducted on an aluminum alloy (EN AW-7075) using a KERN Micro HD machine tool with a single flute monocrystalline diamond milling tool measuring 10 mm in diameter and with a maximum cutting depth of 4 mm. The goal was to produce metallic mirrors without the need for additional polishing operations. This dataset contains three sets of experiments and presents the resulting surface roughness. In the first two sets, the process parameters were varied while keeping the tool path constant. The third set varied the tool path strategies for larger surfaces while keeping the process parameters predominantly constant. The surfaces were scanned using a confocal microscope, and the surface roughness was evaluated with MountainsMap software.
