Here we analyze metagenomes of the river Tama.. Tama River Metagenome Project

Freshwater habitats harbor microbial taxa distinct from those routinely detected in marine and terrestrial ecosystems (Logares et al. 2010). Metagenomic data of oceans are therefore, widely available and there is little or no study on river metagenome. Tama River, located in Sagamihara, Kanagawa prefecture, Japan is important for its diversity and efforts were made to identify the microbiota of the its water column using next generation sequencing technology. This is the first report on functional characteristics of microbiota of the Tama River.
