The gut of the collector sea urchin Tripneustes gratilla elatensis was selected as a new potential resource for cryptic halotolerant α-amylase carrying bacteria. Such a bacterium was isolated, identified and examined for its in vitro growth and starch degradation performances, combined with deep genomic analyses of the potential genes and carbohydrate active enzymes for starch metabolism.
