These volumes contains directions, on the inside cover, to help teachers complete the roll of attendance. This information includes the following instructions; no name is to be entered on the roll until the pupil actually attends school; attention must be paid to accuracy and carefulness when completing the roll; roll must be marked twice daily; teachers should inform students that attendance each day is necessary; and a key outlining the correct symbols to be used:- attendance in the morning: / - attendance in the afternoon: \ - thus showing a attendance for the whole day as: X- absence from sickness: S- absence with approved reason: L- unexplained absence: AThe information recorded in the roll includes: pupil’s name, date of birth, religious denomination, sufficient space for each day where the appropriate symbol is to be written, and a column for the addition of total absent days each term.The bottom section of each page provides for the following statistics: the number of boys and girls respectively; weekly averages of absences; total daily attendances; average age of grades; and average absences for the whole term.
