Fracture evaluation is one of the important applications of ultrasonic imaging logging data. At present, the works of fracture evaluation using ultrasonic imaging logging data mainly focus on the qualitative identification of fractures, the artificial pickup of fracture occurrence, and intelligent fracture identification. There is almost no work related to the quantitative evaluation of fractures using ultrasonic imaging based on image segmentation. The 2D wavelet transform was used to segment the ultrasonic imaging image, and the fracture surface porosity was calculated to quantitatively evaluate the fracture. The research shows that the 2D wavelet transform can detect the changes in the image in the longitudinal and transverse directions at the same time. The continuity of the segmented fracture image is better than the 1D wavelet transform image segmentation. The calculated fracture surface porosity is more accurate, and the data applicability is stronger. The comparison between the fracture surface porosity calculated by ultrasonic imaging logging and the core fracture surface porosity shows that the fracture surface porosity calculated by 2D wavelet transform-based image segmentation using ultrasonic imaging is reasonable and meets the needs of quantitative evaluation of logging fractures.
