My project will tackle this by using paired-end and mate-pair Illumina sequencing data isolated from G. pyriformis bladders. These data represent a metagenome consisting of sequence data from G. pyriformis, Nostoc punctiforme and other bladder endosymbionts. Using a read binning approach I have identified endosymbiont-specific sequencing reads and assemble these into complete annotated genomes. This analysis will be complemented with RNA-seq data produced from G. pyriformis bladders by collaborators, which will allow me to identify which endosymbiont genes are regulated under different growth conditions.
