NGC 4258: Spatial and spectral characterisation of emission components SSC_35

GT ROSAT observations of the active spiral galaxy NGC 4258 established avariety of different emission components: AGN contributions from nucleus andanomalous arms, point sources, diffuse emission from the bulge (surrounding theAGN), diffuse emission from the disk, and diffuse emission from the halo. XMMobservations of NGC 4258 will enable a detailed investigation of theseemission features. Using spatially resolved spectra we will accurately measuretemperature and absorption along the anomalous arms. This will tell us aboutthe orientation (depth) of the arms in the disk.
