Polyomavirus-like sequences were discovered among the shotgun sequencing data for Centruroides exilicauda (Baja California bark scorpion).. Scorpion polyomavirus

Web-based blast searches revealed that whole genome shotgun (WGS) contig AXZI01204118 has significant similarity to the genomes of polyomaviruses. Through back-comparisons to the contig's parent read set, SRX476227, two different variants of the circular DNA genome of a previously unknown polyomavirus species were identified. The "dominant" variant represented in a majority of sequence reads was deposited as a separate entry from a "minority" variant that is almost entirely represented by the original AXZI01204118 contig.
