Design-Level Events and Residential Construction Performance: Hurricane Laura Case Study

This project aims to validate the role of construction codes in reducing losses to the built environment following natural hazard events. The data in this project can and will continue to be used to provide evidence based recommendations to future code amendments and improved compliance practices. The use of Hurricane Laura, a well documented design-level event, provides a wealth of data that can systematically analyze the efficacy of Louisiana's building codes. This research utilizes structural data and specific building attributes, but application extends to natural hazard researchers, social scientists, and the larger civil engineering community.
