Old Indiana State Road 1 Bridge Demolition, February 17, 2016

<p>[[Video(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HcBjRa1dvNU)]]</p> <p>The Whitewater River steel truss bridge in Cedar Grove, Indiana, was built in 1913 but had been closed to traffic since 1999. The Indiana Department of Transportation contractor made cuts at strategic locations to aid in bringing the structure down. “Shape” charges that create blasts of extreme heat were detonated by an explosives team (see and click on image above streaming video). Police enforced a half-mile safe zone to prohibit and protect onlookers from getting too close. This video was shot using remote cameras deployed by the Joint Transportation Research Program to document the February 17, 2016, bridge demolition.</p> <p> </p>
