The application of transient aquaculture for bivalve growout studies with the sea scallop, Placopecten magellanicus

Grant no. NA66FK0070 Three elements necessary for the development of shellfish mariculture in the Gulf of Maine are explored in order to increase marine protein production beyond the limits of the capture fishery: comparative growth rate studies of caged sea scallop, artificial substrate for settlement and collection of seed animals, and a gathering of available information for better characterization of the local marine environment are begun.
