These minute books were initially created under s 102 and S. 107 of the Municipalities Act 1867 (31 Victoria Act No. 12) (and subsequent legislation). These sections specified that the council meet once a month for a general meeting, and required that the minutes of the proceedings be taken and maintained by the council clerk.This series of minute books in nine volumes contains information of the general, special and adjourned meetings of the Borough Council of Annandale. The ordinary meetings were held every two weeks and the minutes were recorded chronologically.The general meetings recorded the date, meeting place, those in attendance and business transacted. Council business includes consideration of correspondence, reports from the various committees, petitions received, and motions moved.The minutes recorded information on financial management, enforcement of regulations, assessment and collection of rates, valuation of properties, building and maintenance of council property, community services and town planning. The series ceased on 23 December 1948 when the Municipality of Annandale ceased to be an independent council.
