This Bacillus subtilis isolate A10 has been isolated in the lab as a potential producer of hydroxycitric acid (HCA). HCA has extensive therapeutic potential and is usually known to accumulate in plants and this isolate represents a bacterial alternative source of natural stereospecific HCA. The strain could be further developed as a model to investigate the otherwise unknown HCA biosynthetic mechanisms.
