NRS-14403 | Certificates for publicans' licences

This form series comprises certificates sent to the Colonial Treasurer by district magistrates authorising the issue of Publicans' General Licences as well as some for Confectioners, Billiard, Night and Packet Licences. The certificates contain the following information: name of district, date of justices' licensing meeting, name of proposed licensee and type of licence issued, situation of Public House and sign, names and residence of sureties for licensee and signatures of justices.The dates recorded here are those of the periods for which licences were authorised by the magistrates rather than the dates of the certificates.Some certificates have been registered as inwards correspondence.An index for the period 1857 to 1861, to the names of licensees only, is available (microfilm copy SR Reel 1374).
