Since viral oncogenes are often not sufficient for transformation, it remains unclear how cells cooperate with viruses to cause cancer. Here, we performed a transposon-based insertional mutagenesis screen to identify genes important for Human papillomavirus (HPV) associated cancers. In two mouse models, we identified gene candidates including Notch1. Analysis of transposon orientations suggested that either gain or loss of Notch1 promoted tumor growth, which was validated using primary HPV tumor models.
