Ichthyoplankton diversity and horizontal distribution during the "CANOA" survey (November 2008) in the Central North Atlantic [Dataset]

This dataset gives information on fish eggs and larval diversity and abundances, integrated through the water column, in the Central North Atlantic in November 2008. This investigation showed the associations between larval fish assemblages and oceanographic conditions in the upper ocean (top 200 m). The larvae of different myctophid species serve as indicators of the water masses. The alongslope offshore convergence of North Atlantic Central Water and South Atlantic Central Water takes place at the Cape Verde Frontal Zone, representing a region of extensive offshore export for larvae of coastal species, mainly Sardina pilchardus and Engraulis encrasicolus
