Mycobacterium abscessus massiliense otitis media and mastoiditis in immunocompetent female: detection of subspecies required whole genome sequencing

The present case is a young woman without specific immunodeficiency or risk factors who presented with otitis media and mastoiditis. After ventriculoplasty and drainage combined , systematic antibiotic therapy for 6 weeks and oral antibiotics for 6 months with firm identification of subspecies and susceptibility her hearing improved and she has had no recurrence. Since general tests could identify only "Mycobacterium abscessus Spp.", a whole genome analysis was required to identify the species.
