Campylobacter jejuni produces a flagellum at each end of the bacterial cell that is powered by stator complexes, composed of the MotA and MotB stator proteins, which integrate into the flagellar motor. The FlgX protein had previously been shown to interact with stator proteins and be required for motility. We performed a suppressor screen in C. jejuni flgX to identify supressor mutations in mutants that re-gained partial to full motility. The genomes of isolated suppressor mutants were sequenced to identify the location of suppressor mutations that allowed for partial to full restoration of motility.
