Both antioxidants (AOs (1)) and reverse micelles (RMs) are essential components of typical lubrication oils for internal combustion engines (ICEs), so it is of interest to understand how they interact. Typical AOs, such as shown in Figure 2, prevent oxidation of base oils which would otherwise generate unwanted deposits and contaminants. Looking at these AOs, it can be anticipated that they partition differently between oil-interface-water, hence the need for SANS contrast variation studies.
