Insight into the responses of trees to cultivation in mono- or hetero-specific combination is necessary to predict which tree mixture will be more suitable under climate change scenarios encompassing precipitation reduction and increased nitrogen (N) deposition. We investigated mycorrhization, root tip vitality and biomass of three temperate forest species (Fagus sylvatica, Picea abies and Pseudotsuga menziesii) grown in monospecific (FsFs, PaPa, PmPm) and mixed combinations (FsPa, FsPm), under four treatments (control, water reduction, N addition, and water reduction + N addition) in a pot experiment.
