VPRS 13985 Register of Bush Fire and Flood Relief Loans Repayments

After bushfires in 1898 and 1901 and floods in 1900, lessees of Crown land were able to apply for relief funds to remedy the damage caused. This relief could be in the form of grass seed (for the regeneration of pastures), wire (for the replacement of fencing) or building materials. Applications for this assistance are registered in VPRS 13957.This series records the repayments made by successful applicants for this assistance. Details given are the number and name, the location and extent of the land and where the application for relief was handled along with with the date of the mortgage or lien taken on their property. The type of relief is listed being orders for grass seed or fencing or building materials for both fire and flood and the additional category of animals for flood relief. Repayments of interest and principal are recorded as well as the payment of fees and the date of the discharge of the mortgage or lien.
